Family Medical Practice

We've been in Vietnam for two and half months now, today was the first time we felt compelled to take someone to the doctor.  Carter took a couple of falls at the basketball game Thursday, and his arm was still bothering him.  So we decided to rule out a broken arm and took him to the Family Medical Practice in Hanoi.

Before we left in August, we needed to make sure we had insurance coverage in case of any medical emergencies.  Dave Auble helped us navigate the insurance waters and we purchased GeoBlue international health insurance for our family.  I called GeoBlue to make sure everything was covered, and after some initial confusion on their part, they sent the Guarantee of Payment to both me and the clinic.

The clinic itself was crowded but pleasant.  The staff all spoke English, and we were in and out in an hour.

Here's Carter waiting for the X-Ray technician.

Fortunately the X-Ray revealed it was just a sprain, so the nurse wrapped it tightly and sent us home.

It was nice to get the doctor visit out of the way, reassuring to see the clinic was responsive and professional, and glad that the news was good about Carter.

Even better was the bill -- our insurance covered everything.  And even if we would have had to cover the cost, the total bill was $172 for a doctor's visit, 2 x-rays, and the supplies.  Much cheaper than the U.S.
