Youth sports in Hanoi

In basketball action yesterday, Noah and Carter's team beat Olympia 20-18 when Noah scored the go ahead basket with 12 seconds left.  Meanwhile, Ellie's team suffered their first loss of the season, losing 21-10 to Olympia.  Ellie scored the last basket of the game.  Olympia is a Vietnamese school that teaches about half of their classes in English.  It was an interesting place.

One thing I've noticed about attending these games: Libby and I are usually the only parents there.  There are many students that stick around after school to cheer on the teams, and they usually cheer when either team makes a basket, but parents do not come to watch.  More important, I've never heard any coach, player or crowd member complain about the referee (despite some pretty dodgy calls).  While the quality of basketball on the court is a little lower than the U.S., the pleasant crowd experience more than makes up for it.
