How much do things cost?

We've been surprised many times at the cost of things here in Hanoi and elsewhere. Most of the things have cost significantly less than we're used to (food, beer, transportation, movie tickets, etc), although some of the things are quite a bit more than we thought (education, chocolate chips).

Here's a rundown of some of the expenses we've had. Just how much do things cost in Vietnam?  The current exchange rate here is 22,475 Vietnamese dong (VND) per 1 U.S. dollar (USD).  I've listed the prices below in dollars and their VND equivalents.

Bus ride anywhere in Hanoi (we use these a lot): 31 cents (VND 7,000)
Box of Fruit Loops cereal: $4.45 (VND 100,000)
Bag of mini chocolate chips (rarely sold in Hanoi): $6.18 (VND 139,000)
Bottle of Teppy orange drink: 31 cents (VND 7,000)
Package of uncooked bacon: $2.45 (VND 55,000)

Semester of school at English-speaking international high school: $10,000 (VND 224,750,000) (our kids' tuition is being heavily subsidized so we don't pay nearly this much)
Round trip plane ticket from Cleveland to Hanoi (come visit us!): $900 (VND 20,227,500)

Taxi ride, 5.25 miles (we use these a lot, too):  $4.32 (VND 97,000)
1 dozen eggs: $2.67 (VND 60,000)
1 cup of coffee at the coffee shop around the corner: 67 cents (VND 15,000)

Bowl of pho at our favorite place around the corner from our apartment:$1.11  (VND 25,000)
Chicken sandwich (banh my) on fresh-baked baguette: 80 cents (VND 18,000)
Can of Hai Boi Ha Noi (beer): 44 cents (VND 10,000)

1 fresh cut-open coconut purchased on side of road: 67 cents (VND 15,000)
