Night Market in the Old Quarter

We've been wanting to return to the Old Quarter of Hanoi for a trip to their Night Market.  While there is lots of shopping and fun things to do any day in the Old Quarter, at night on the weekends they block one of the streets from motorbike and car traffic and let the vendors come into the street.

We started at Cho Dong Xuan, the equivalent of the West Side Market that borders one side of the Old Quarter area (which comprises about 36 streets).

Unfortunately things were closing down at the indoor market but Libby was able to get some bubble tea supplies to bring back to the States.

These nem were being made right outside the market by a street vendor.

We ended up having dinner at a touristy restaurant near the front of the Old Quarter.  It was called "Hanoi's Best -- Cheap and Cheerful Restaurant".  Usually we bypass these places but they promised us their large pizzas were delicious.  And only $4.50.  So we were suckered in.  The pizzas were fine.  We were hungry and they fed our bellies.

The restaurant also served as a travel agency.  These annoying backpackers tried to haggle for ten minutes over their bus fare to Da Nang.  I think they were arguing over $5.

It is Taylor Swift's world, we just live in it.  Here we are watching her videos in Hanoi at the restaurant:

Carter was pretty excited about his purchase of a fun cover for his iPod:
